[edit] Hunting for the C-4194
Following Operation Return Starfleet became aware of that a Jem'Hadar super carrier was keeping several Dominion bases along the front supplied with ketracel-white. Starfleet Command realised that the destruction of this carrier, designated C-4194 would seriously weaken the Dominion's position along that area of the front and maybe force them to abandon some of their forward bases. Tasked with the mission to hunt down the carrier was the recently formed Task Force 59 under the command of Rear Admiral Jennifer Douglas.
While trying to hunt down the carrier the task force struck a small Dominion listening post. This attack accidentally attracted the attention of the USS Swiftfire-A, which came to the aid of the attack force. Douglas promptly added the Swiftfire to her small force for the strike against the carrier.
[edit] Attacking the carrier
The task force attacked the carrier group at a location inside Cardassian territory that gave the ship few options to escape. The carrier group was prepared for the attack as the Dominion was aware of the task force hunting for the carrier and had tripled its usual number of escorts. The arrival of fifteen Starfleet starships was met by the the bulk of the escorts, with only two Jem'Hadar battle cruisers remaining as close protection for the carrier. While the escorts engaged the Starfleet ships the carrier made its way to its nearest escape route. However, the Vorta commander became suspicious when the Starfleet force seemed more intend on engaging the escorts rather then trying to strike at the carrier and brought the carrier to a stop. The Vorta's suspicious were met when the USS Venture dropped out of warp along the carrier's escape route. With this new threat the two battle cruisers moved in to engage the powerful Galaxy-class starship.
This was exactly as the task force had planned and the carrier was now completely undefended. The main Starfleet force had succeeded in splitting the escorts, opening a hole in their lines. The USS Swiftfire-A then arrived dropping out of warp on top of the Dominion's lines and using its momentum to crash through the gap, literally. A Jem'Hadar attack ship was destroyed when it was rammed by the speeding Akira-class starship.
This initiative allowed the Swiftfire to engage and cause heavy damage to the carrier. Only the timely intervention of a battle cruiser that had disengaged from battling the Venture stopped the outright destruction of the carrier. Using its powerful tractor beams the battle cruiser trapped the Swiftfire, preventing it from bringing its main weapons to bear on the carrier. Captain Jonathan Masters then made use of an unusual tactic. He ordered the ejection of one of the ship's warp cores and using the ship's tractor beams hurled it into the damaged carrier. The resulting explosion destroyed the carrier and damaged both the Swiftfire and the battle cruiser attacking her. The Swiftfire was able to recover faster and quickly dispatched the battle cruiser. The remaining escorts fought on but were completely destroyed by the task force. The task force managed to get through the battle without the loss of a single capital ship but lost several fighters in the engagement. With the crrier group destroy the task force retreated back into Federation territory. ("Task Force 59")
[edit] Aftermath
The entire battle was witnessed by Jasmine Carter, a reporter from the Federation News Service from the bridge of the Swiftfire. She completed a story to be distributed by FNS but was then held back by Starfleet Command. The story and details of the battle were finally published several months later just prior to the First Battle of Chin'toka. ("Task Force 59", "A Rough Time", "Into the Fire")
