The Archanis sector was a sector located on the border of Federation and Klingon Empire territory. (Star Trek: Star Charts)

In late-2372, the Klingon chancellor, Gowron demanded the the Federation abandon its military bases within the sector and hand it back to the Klingon Empire despite the empire surrendering its claim in the 23rd century. He later sent a task force to reclaim the sector, giving the Federation ten days to evacuate. (DS9: "Broken Link")

The sector was still contested when a ceasefire was brokered in early 2373 during the Second Federation-Klingon War. Not long after the Klingon's broke the ceasefire and the Klingon Sixth Battlegroup overran the sector, forcing Starfleet to retreat. To contain the Klingons with Archanis the Starfleet Twentieth Fleet was ordered to the sector, supported by the Twelfth Fleet. (Star Trek: Swiftfire: "Chariots of Korvat")

A counter offensive into the sector was lead by the USS Rutledge and USS Tecumseh. (DS9: "Nor the Battle to the Strong")
