The archaeology and anthropology officer (or A & A officer) specializes in studying cultures (anthropology) and their pasts (archaeology).

Some Starfleet ships have an A & A officer on staff. In the 23rd century, Carolyn Palamas served in this position aboard the USS Enterprise. (TOS: "Who Mourns for Adonais?"). In the 24th century, Dr. Ramsey was the USS Yamato's A & A officer, while, aboard the USS Enterprise-D, Marla Aster served in the archaeology department at the time of her death. (TNG: "Contagion", "The Bonding")

During the 2360s, first officer Anne Cobry was A & A officer aboard the USS Prospect. When she was promoted to the rank of captain and had an increase in duties aboard the USS Prospect-A, Cobry relinquished the role to Lieutenant Amy Bell in 2371. (Star Trek: The Prospect Chronicles) Incidentally, Bell was the former A & A officer aboard the USS Minnesota (NCC-64332). (Star Trek: Minnesota: "Dirge")

Ensign Tyler Sinclair served as A & A officer aboard the USS Westphalen after his graduation from Starfleet Academy in the mid-2380s. (Star Trek: Pendragon: "The Argonaut Syndrome", "The Kraken", "Land of My Sojourn", "The Significance of a Single Day", "Another Time, Another Place", "Starkindler", "Still Called Today", "The Hand of God")

In 2401, Vincour served as A & A officer aboard the Stoneship in order to pay off her student debt, caused by studying anthropology at Aldanna University in graduate school. (Star Trek: The Stoneship Files: "Cruchitude Dump")
