Alpha Centauri

Alpha Centauri is the closest star system to the Sol system, at 4.37 light years distance. It is visible from Earth's southern hemisphere as a single star, but is actually a trinary star system consisting of Alpha Centauri A, Alpha Centauri B and a distant red companion, Proxima Centauri.

Zefram Cochrane was said to be "of Alpha Centauri" (TOS: "Metamorphosis"), though he was actually a native Terran who had emigrated to Alpha Centauri after developing the warp drive.
