Captain A.G. Robinson was a Earth Starfleet officer in the 22nd century. In 2143, he broke the Warp 2 barrier, becoming the first human to do so.
As a commander, Robinson served as a pilot in the NX Program with then-Commander Jonathan Archer, successfully piloting the NX-Alpha past warp 2, reaching warp 2.2 before the warp field collapsed, destroying the ship. Robinson ejected his escape pod in time to survive.
After Starfleet and the Vulcan High Command suspended the program, Robinson, Archer and Charles Tucker III corrected a flaw with the warp engine design, launching an unauthorized flight of the NX-Beta. Robinson and Archer piloted the ship to warp 2.5, with Archer at the controls during the historic flight. As a result, the program resumed.
In 2150, now-Captain Robinson was considered, but passed up, for command of the Enterprise (NX-01), scheduled to launch in 2151. He was assigned to take command of the Columbia (NX-02), launching in 2154, but, in 2153, he died climbing Earth's Mount McKinley.
Archer discovered a dark-matter nebula soon after Robinson's death, opting to name it the Robinson Nebula after his deceased colleague. (ENT: "First Flight")
